This building used to be the saw-mill\u00a0during the time of Arsenal, which represented\u00a0one of the largest maritime\u00a0bases of the Adriatic.

The Arsenal was established by the\u00a0Austro-Hungarians in 1889, and it represented\u00a0the important base for maintenance\u00a0and repairs of submarines,\u00a0first of Austro-Hungarian and German\u00a0ones, and then the submarines belonging\u00a0to Yugoslavia.

\n

One particularly valuable museum exhibit\u00a0that takes breath of all visitors is\u00a0the submarine P-821 Hero. It is placed\u00a0at the plateau in front of the Maritime\u00a0Heritage Museum and represents\u00a0the pride of Yugoslav Navy.

The school ship \u201cJadran\u201d (the Adriatic)\u00a0was built in 1933, in the German\u00a0shipyard in Hamburg. The same\u00a0year, it\u00a0sailed into the Tivat port,\u00a0which is still her mother port.\u00a0This ship has visited almost all European\u00a0ports, from the Black sea to\u00a0the Baltic sea, that is, it\u00a0sailed over\u00a0400,000 nautical miles.\u00a0The most interesting and the longest\u00a0voyage, in duration of approximately\u00a03 months, was the route\u00a0Dubrovnik \u2013 New York \u2013 Boston \u2013\u00a0Dubrovnik, in 1938.

The submarine has its own story \u2013\u00a0discover how 28 submariners, far in\u00a0the sea depths, were writing down

The Hero submarine was immersed\u00a0into the sea in August 1967 in Split,\u00a0and after 23 years, it was taken out of\u00a0the sea to the shore, in 1991 in Tivat.
\nIt had sailed 46,659 nautical miles in\u00a0total, which is the equivalent to double\u00a0sailing around the earth.
