As the latest ICCA statistic shows, in 2017, over 12,500 international congresses were held in the world.</h1>\n<p>Now just imagine what a large number of people have attended these meetings. Millions of participants were involved there. How much paper, food, drinks, different packaging, bags and other materials have been spent on those? So-called <em>green meetings</em> imply increased energy efficiency, waste reduction whenever possible, as well as environmentally friendly arrival and departure of guests whenever and if there is an opportunity for it. Do you know how much food, drink, unspent and unused materials after the event remain? A lot. The inconvenient information is that it is mostly thrown away. You can put there all the necessary information that will be useful \u2013 agenda, hourly plan, schedule of lectures, workshops, meetings&#8230;</p>\n<p><strong>When we talk about plates, glasses, cutlery and handkerchiefs,</strong> you can replace them with those that are biodegradable. And it does not have to be just a cardboard. There are also those made of bamboo and palm leaves. They look attractive, and are safe and<br />\neco-friendly. You can use <strong>local ingredients</strong> to prepare meals. In addition to helping your local economy, it is also kind and useful to know and become familiar with local specialties and specifics. Especially if you have representatives from other countries among the participants. At start, their goal is always a noble one \u2013 all participants need to feel good and need to gain the impression that they are part of the same team. To get the best out of each one or to show who is the best in a particular field and in which one he will show the best results. But now we are talking about team building activities that need to bring prosperity at a global level. At the level of the community we belong to and the society we live in. We would all do planting. It is a pity that the trees provide us with the oxygen for breathing only.\u201d I have held my thoughts on this one. A green meeting or event goes beyond recycling.</p>\n<h1 style=\"text-align: justify;\">Green meetings have been defined as a \u201cmeeting that incorporates environmental considerations throughout all stages of the meeting in order to minimize the negative impact on the environment.\u201d</h1>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Greening an event encompasses all aspects of the planning process. By making choices at every planning level, from site selection to serving condiments like ketchup and sugar from bulk containers, the environmental impact of the event can be significantly reduced. It means taking steps to minimize waste through recycling, composting and avoiding disposable items, to decrease energy consumption, and to use products with post-consumer recycled content and food that is organic, local or fair trade. Green meetings also incorporate social aspects such as charitable donations and projects that give back to the community.</p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>Why is it important to make my meeting green?</strong></p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">A small meeting may not seem important, after all what difference does a few dozen cups and</p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">napkins make? But think about what happens when it is on a large scale. For example, during a typical five day conference, 2,500 attendees will use 62,500 plates, 87,500 napkins, 75,000 cups or glasses and 90,000 cans or bottles. Plus there are all the greenhouse emissions from people traveling to and from the conference and paper and plastic waste from conference handouts.</p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Now multiply this by the thousands of meetings produced each year worldwide and the environmental impact is staggering. Increasingly they will choose to work with suppliers who can satisfy this demand.</p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">As businesses increasingly focus on the CSR (Corporate &amp; Social Responsibility), corporations are looking to use greener venues and companies/hotels which take care of eco standards are more likely to get big corporate clients. It makes sound commercial sense as much as it makes sound ethical sense.
