Okay, people who are not surfers at all. And so I came across URBANSURF. The solution for those of us aspiring to surf. It’s a bit far, but who knows. Perhaps by the end of writing this piece, I’ll end up moving there. If anyone wants to come along, feel free to.

URBANSURF is the brand of the first surf park in Australia. That’s right – it’s a park, or rather a lagoon, a specially designed surface that surf fans can use regardless of weather conditions because the waves are man-made. The waves made here are the real deal, ideal for surfing!

Interestingly, the lagoon is divided into two different surf zones. The peak zone, intended for experienced, seasoned surfers (which I will soon become, as soon as I move), is located in the very center of the lagoon, while the Bay zone is placed along the edges of the park, perfect for beginners and novices in the sport. The dimensions of the standard lagoon are around 2.4 square meters, but the surface area may vary depending on the spot where the lagoon is built.

Now, you’re probably curious to know how these waves are made. Me, too. The waves in t e lagoon are generated by the water moving over a low rail that actually forms the waves, and then the water basically breaks on itself – just like when an ocean wave moves across a reef and shoal. In this artificial bay, the water is moved by a mechanical device placed on the central axis of the lagoon. The device moves more than 30 tons of water at a speed of more than 6 m/s to make a perfect surfing wave.

Several types of waves are made in the lagoon – from the extremely small ones and somewhat bigger ones to those more than 2.1m high intended for professionals. The size and speed of the waves in the lagoon vary, so there’s a wave for everyone – from beginners to experts. At one wave per eight seconds, the result is more than 1,000 made-for-surfing waves in a single hour. Impressive, to say the least.

And then there’s the question of safety. Surfing experts say that surfing under typical conditions is usually a very harmless activity (the shark immediately pops up in my mind!, but, if the experts say so…).

Safety is a priority for URBANSURF. Surfing under these conditions actually eliminates, regulates, or minimizes most hazards and risks that this sport entails. For better, of course. What are the things that can be changed by yoga, read in the article Yoga as a Way of Life.

How and why You started practicing yoga?

For a few months, in a fitness center where I practiced, I was trying different fitness group programs. Yoga was the only class that made me feel refreshed and empowered. After yoga class, I could come home and clean entire apartment. Some other classes only made me think of “hitting the bed”. I have no intention to deny benefits of a good aerobic training, but this was a deciding factor for me. Until you feel it within your own body, all arguments are redundant.

What are the yoga types and what are differences?

Radmila Knezevic, licenced yoga instructor of the Vidya Voga School

Most people associate yoga with one branch of yoga practice, Hatha. Hatha is all about the basics in these slower moving classes that require you to hold each pose for a few breaths. Ashtanga is a traditional and structured system of more complex movements and positions, and I enjoy it the most. It generates internal heat and builds strength, but just like with everything else, skipping steps is not always a good idea. I wouldn’t recommend it for beginners.

Vinyasa yoga combines these two. It is a dynamic practice that links movement and breath together in a dance-like way. Acro yoga is a less known concept, performed usually in pairs consisting of a base and a flyer. On base’s hands or legs, the flyer can perform a wide range of movements and positions. This is a wonderful way of gaining trust and harmonization, combined with other benefits that yoga brings – building flexibility and strength, improvement of balance and focus. The transmission of these qualities from a yoga mat to one’s personal and business aspect of life is invaluable asset.

What part of the body is the biggest stress container?

Stress influences all organ systems. It affects digestion, skin, but accumulated tension can be usually noticed in upper back muscles, shoulders and/or neck and lead to headache. These areas of the body are being targeted in every yoga class. A special way of breathing, Ujjayi, is additional help. You can practice it even while you are sitting at your office table. First, seal your lips and start to breathe in and out through your nose. Take inhalation that is slightly deeper than normal. Exhale slowly while constricting the muscles in the back of your throat.
If you’re doing this correctly, you should sound like waves in the ocean. You should keep attention on the breath. For a few minutes, focus only on this sound, no matter what is happening around you. It is not easy, but give it a try.

Only a few minutes of focused Ujjayi breathing can release tension and tight areas of the body, alleviate headaches, even lower blood pressure and regulate heartbeat. This is an only first aid, of course.

Whom would You recommend yoga practicing to?

Yoga is for everybody and every type of a body. Only important thing to remember is to choose an experienced teacher to adapt class for the needs of a specific person and body condition, age and health. Some people tend to say “I’m not flexible enough to do yoga”. Saying that is like saying you’re too dirty to take a bath.

Some companies offer yoga classes for their employees during working time. What do You think about that?

Sedentary lifestyle and disrupt work-life balance lead to absenteeism. Undoubtedly, companies should rather offer well designed type of physical activity during workday such as yoga than deal with consequences.
Radmila Knezevic, who turned her years-long hobby into a profession, is a licensed yoga instructor of the Vidya Voga school, which is under the auspices of the European Yoga Alliance. As she says, she finally found a profession that she can commit fully to with love.
When You start doing yoga, perception of the world surrounding You becomes to change.
It is known that quality time during the breaks can increase work efficiency. Yoga class is ideal for filling those breaks. Excluding financial factors, this is one of the best ways for a company to show care and appreciation to its people.
For You personally, what is the most demanding yoga position? What does it do?
Tittibhasana Pose
There is no posture which can be described as the most demanding. Some people put a lot of effort in conquering postures that are relatively simple. For some other, even difficult ones are going smoothly. It surely depends of a body’s physical condition and of practitioner’s personality also. It is often said that “Yoga is not about touching your toes; it’s about what you learn on the way down.” Accept the challenge. Expand your limits. That’s what it is all about.
Firefly pose is one of my favorite challenges. It is an arm balance pose that requires more core strength than arm strength. Lifting yourself off the floor by carefully shifting your center of gravity can be really complex. With an inhale, you should stretch your legs out to the
sides as straight as you can, keeping your pelvis high to make your legs parallel to the floor.
I’m not even close. Therefore, a bivouac is a space convenient only for a short – term stay, with no additional efforts in arranging it.

The form of staying outdoors, such as a bivouac, is most often used when one is passing through, as for example it is the case with bicyclists, motorcyclists, kayakers, but also with those who lack enough time, and thus decide for a suitable location in the vicinity of one’s residence, in order to spend a day outside in the nature.

Camp – Each bivouac is envious and dreams of becoming a camp. The difference between a bivouac and a camp is rather negligent, referring mainly to the existence of certain infrastructure elements, such as an easy access and a landscaped area.

This form of staying outdoors is mainly chosen by those who have adequate equipment for repeated usage, and who stay outdoors under such conditions from several days to a few weeks.

Tent lodging – It implies the existence of infrastructural facilities, i.e. landscaped area and easy access, with several permanent buildings for lodging, most often made of solid materials. Landscaped area and easy access also implies nicely arranged and designated places for tents, camping trailers or camp vehicles, road leading to the tent lodging, road signs, information on the location, and so on. Infrastructural elements involve the existence of internal roads and paths, electric power and water sockets, and even connections for gas and telephone / Internet. There are often several buildings too, such as a common rest rooms and bathrooms, and facilities housing some of the services, such as restaurants, pizzerias, bakery shops, and even a post office.

In practice this type of arranged space is wrongly named ‘camp‘, but it is a more acceptable and better sounding name than tent lodging. They are widespread along the coast and in the mountains, and more often than not they can be found in spas and other resorts and holiday retreats. Also, there are several in Serbia on the Danube.

This form of holiday and sojourn outdoors is becoming more and more popular everywhere in the world, particularly so as there is no need to arrange the space or perform any other works, as it all exists already. No additional tackle is needed, as it already exists on a certain location. As there are several types of camps, everyone can chose for oneself according to one’s taste. All one needs is some goodwill, a bit of time to oneself or one’s family, a positive atmosphere, and all the rest is left to nature.

World’s Best Camping Experiences

The word campsite is used for three different kinds of accommodation: The kind where you carry your world on your back and set it up, getting back to basics with a tent, a fire and the great outdoors; the kind of cheerful community camping where you’re not expected to miss out on hot showers or electrical essentials, and there’s all sorts of additional entertainment laid on to help you get the most out of your holiday in nature. There is the luxury or African Safari kind too, where there’s none of this carrying or sharing to be dealing with.

This list of the world’s best camping has excellent examples of all three kinds:

I ‘Roughing it’ Camping

One step off loading up your pack, getting out on the unmarked trail and stopping and setting up camp when you get tired, these are some of the best remote and basic campsites, promising a “Man and Nature camping experience”.

1.) Gwern Gof Isaf Farm – Gwern Gof Isaf is more a place of legend than a mere campsite, where generations of mountaineers have come to challenge themselves on the most impressive hill in Snowdonia, Wales – the mighty Tryfan, one of the most recognisable peaks in the region.
Bivouac refers mainly to one – day or overnight stay in nature. A great number of us are active in this way for almost the entire season, calling it a jaunt, but as it is mostly done in previously chosen places suitable for a short stay, then it turns out to be a bivouac.
