Kitchen can be the main place for organizing informal gatherings, and an excellent place for the next team building everyone could take part in, regardless of their age and physical fitness. Whether your employees are experienced cooks or amateurs, they are going to find this to be a very interesting activity.
Typical team building activities became over represented in a way, and maybe even anticipated.
When team building comes up in a conversation, employees already think of paintball, bowling, weekend in a spa center, etc., because they are used to doing those activities.
Therefore it is up to companies to come across original team building activities, and give their employees something they don’t expect.
Organizing team cooking
Everyone can take part, regardless of their age and physical fitness, because it requires no physical efforts, like some other team building activities.
Cooking can be both indoor and outdoor activity, depending on the number of participants and the weather conditions.
A team, or teams, get recipes for making traditional meals they have to prepare together. They have to delegate responsibilities – who does the chopping, who kneads, bakes, who fries, and so on.
This is an excellent way to see how employees function as a team, who stands out as a leader, and how much time do they need to agree on particular tasks. Participants do not need to be professionals, considering that a professional chef can supervise the cooking.
Organizing cooking as a multi-group activity can be rather interesting. For example, every group could get a recipe for preparing the same dish they would later on present to judges.
Judges could be either professional chefs or previously selected team members. Also, groups could prepare different meals, and then other groups could evaluate it. Group whose dish wins the most votes would be a winner, and win a certain award.
Team building – Team cooking
If the cooking is organized for just one group, members could define the concept themselves, or they could get recipes for preparing lunch or dinner for the entire group. This is a low-pressure version of the event, since there is no single winner, and it can be equally fun.
Of course, competitive mindset could be completely ruled out, and groups could prepare meals for pure fun, and enjoy them together.
Anyway, after they put in their efforts, participants will enjoy trying out traditional meals they prepared from fresh ingredients.
Ideally, they would savor these traditional meals in venues or places that are traditional for the chosen area, should the weather conditions allow. That way they could get to know both the culture and tradition of a certain destination. Besides from preparing meals, participants could also prepare zimnica (food stored for winter) or jams. Upon completion of the task, participants could bring a jar of zimnica or jam as a souvenir.
Jar sticker could contain information such as the date, name of the company or names of team members that prepared it and it would be a reminder of the wonderful time they spent together and the team work they invested.
Recipes for preparing meals can be more or less complicated.
So, if participants go to a destination in Serbia, they could prepare gibanica (multi layered pastry), pogaca with kajmak (bread with cream cheese), proja (corn bread), sarma, barbecue, apple or cherry pies etc.
If the event should take place in Croatia, participants could make manestra (vegetable stew), brudet (fish stew), sinjski arambasici, orahnjaca (walnut roll), and in Slovenia, their cooking-task could be struklji (filled pastry), potica (nut roll), prekmurska gibanica (layer cake) or sausages.

In Montenegro they could make kacamak (maize porridge), rastan, stuffed peppers or podgoricki popeci (veal dish), and in Macedonia they could cook Macedonian Goulash, turli tava (vegetable and meat stew), or Macedonian pogacha (type of bread).

In Bosnia and Herzegovina, team members could try and make tufahije (walnut-stuffed apples), kadaif (sweet noodles), bosanski lonac (vegetable and meat stew), etc.
Recipes
Whether your employees are experienced cooks or amateurs, they are going to find this to be a very interesting activity.
Cooking will provide your team a chance to get to know each other better, strengthen the team spirit, and enjoy preparing and consuming local specialties they prepared.
Team members will surely have a wonderful experience they will be eager to repeat in another location, and enjoy preparing area-specific specialties.
The post Team building – Team cooking – Unique activity for employees appeared first on SEE Business travel & meetings magazine.",

According to one theory, the origins of bowling date from Egypt, 3200 B.C., when, during the excavations in one child’s grave, they found the remains of the bowling game.

The game consisted of 9 narrow bowling pins, 3 stone balls, 3 stone rings that the balls were probably supposed to pass through. According to another theory, the origins of bowling are related to discovery of antique Polynesian game “ula maika” which also included bowling pins and stone balls, and in which the pins were supposed to be hit from the distance of 18m.

With the time, various bowling games were appearing, in which the number of pins varied, and the game was played on various types of paths, and according to different rules. In Europe, the bowling was spreading under different names. In France, for example, it was known as “quills”, and in England, “skittles”. In Germany, people started to bowl far back in the 3rd century, and the game had religious background.

The first bowling tournament took place in Germany, in 1891.

In England, the bowling arouse a lot of interest, so in 1530, Henry VIII ordered bowling lanes to be constructed at his palace. Later, the bowling spread to Scotland, The Netherlands and Spain.
It is still unknown how the bowling arrived to America, but, according to some excavations in California, it can be concluded that the Spaniards were those who took the game to America, in 16th century.

The Rules of the Game and the Code of Conduct

With time, the bowling was attracting increasing number of people, and became very suitable for betting. When the possibilities of betting appeared, the bowling became a game of chance.
Origins of Bowling
The origins of bowling, as usually, are supported by several theories.
However, the character of the games on chance is such that it immediately enlisted the bowling among the forbidden games, as in the period when it appeared, the games of chance were forbidden.
The official ban exactly explained what was allowed, and what was not, in case of bowling. However, one of the fans of this sport, found a loophole, and decided to put 10 bowling pins instead of 9, and to prolong the lane from 35 to 105cm, so the bowling could have been continued.
As the bowling is a competitive sport, it includes certain rules.
Bowling pins are arranged mechanically, into four lines which make an equilateral triangle. Also, the bowling pins are positioned at 30cm distance from each other, and in order to be counted, they must be completely knocked down.
In 1875, in America, 27 clubs joined together to make the “National Bowling Association”.
So, in accordance with the rules, the player is allowed to play 10 rounds in which he knock down the pins, and each round allows two throws. If, during the first throw all the pins are knocked down, that is called a “strike”, and then the round is finished, and in case of remaining pins, knocked down are numbered and removed. Participants can feel, for a couple of hours at least, like lords and ladies at a ball organized in an impressive historical building, a city palace, castle, or a villa. Setting up camp and lighting the campfire are activities that everyone can take part in as team building and recreational activities. A group is given a lead and a set of problems to be resolved in order to find the next mark that will lead them to the goal – the “buried treasure”. The problems the participants have to resolve to get to the following mark can be something from their area of expertise or profession or can be typical questions from a seminar they have attended. City dwellers rarely get the chance to do that so working in vineyards, orchards, and gardens, picking fruit and vegetables and then enjoying the fruit of their labors is a perfect experience. People become aware of the process, work, and effort required to bring fresh fruit to their table and they enjoy eating fresh, healthy, organic food to boot.

Arts and crafts are usually characterized by folk handiwork and the use of traditional techniques. A group can be taken to a village household or an old crafts workshop, where locals will introduce them to the secrets and skills of an old trade. Then the members of the group can try their hand making things with the help and instruction of the villagers. Taking part in these activities allows participants to experience first hand local customs and culture and to show their creativity and skillfulness, maybe even discover a talent for a certain technique or art form.

These activities can involve various traditional techniques like pottery, straw painting, and making souvenirs out of straw, making items from home-made felt, making artifacts in wood or stone or “licider” cakes for which dough is kneaded and baked and then decorated and painted with figures of dolls, hearts, and knights on horseback.

Those who took part in making these items will take handiwork home as keepsakes, along with plenty of ideas and a truly authentic experience.

The possibilities are endless, and the ones we have listed here are only a few of them. Participants can watch simulated jousting of costumed and decorated knights or can learn and try some knightly skills on their own. They can take part in the sack race, the long jump, stone throwing, the high jump, arm wrestling, and tug of war.
* Conquest Games in Deserted Buildings
An activity that inevitably gets the adrenalin going and makes participants work together and develop mutual trust while having great fun is paintball. A group is divided into two teams whose aim is to try and conquer the other team’s flag while defending their own. This game can be played either indoors or outdoors. In urban environments, the adjusted inside of a deserted building can be a perfect setting for paintball. The players try to eliminate members of the opposite team by “shooting” them with balls of paint from a paintball rifle.
* Step on the Gas
A fast and fun karting drive is another sure way to boost adrenalin levels and keep spirits high. Professional karting circuits will take care of everything, from organizing and carrying out the kart race, to the cup-awarding ceremony, complete with spurting champagne, just like at the Formula 1 races.
* Become a Pilot for a Day
If you really want to organize an unforgettable experience for your event participants, there are pilot training schools offering a one-on-one flight experience with an instructor. The novice pilot first undergoes theoretic instruction, which gets him acquainted with the basic theory of flying, flight commands, navigation procedures, meteorological data etc. After that, the participant gets in the pilot’s seat and flies the plane together with the pilot instructor. The whole experience is made complete by the pilot’s diploma awarded after the flight (fake, of course, but bound to get a smile out of the participant who receives it.)
* Orienteering
Orienteering is a sport that puts the competitors’ orientation abilities to the test. Their task is to find a series of checkpoints on a terrain in as little time as possible with the help of a marked map and compass. Usually the sequence in which the checkpoints should be found is also given, although some competitions allow the competitors to choose the order in which they look for the checkpoints. Besides being an ideal outdoor pastime, this activity can be organized in urban surroundings, around city streets and buildings.

Activities for Rural Environments
* Camping around a Fire
There is nothing that spells freedom like sleeping under the open skies. In areas where camping is allowed, tents can be set up, a camp fire lit, potatoes roasted on the hot ashes, and guitar-playing is sure to follow. Setting up camp and lighting the campfire are activities that everyone can take part in as team building and recreational activities. With the beautiful sounds of nature and the view changing with every hour of the ebbing day, only the sky is the limit for this unforgettable experience.
* Treasury Hunt
Nature provides a great environment for discovering ourselves and the things that surround us. A treasure hunt has always had its charm, not only for the true gold diggers of the “gold rush” era but for everyone taking part in this type of game. A group is given a lead and a set of problems to be resolved in order to find the next mark that will lead them to the goal – the “buried treasure”. The problems the participants have to resolve to get to the following mark can be something from their area of expertise or profession or can be typical questions from a seminar they have attended. Of course, they can also be simply entertaining in character or problems whose solving requires basic orientation skills or knowledge of natural laws.
* Village Arts and Crafts
A particularly interesting trend in activities organized in rural areas is creating an authentic experience through learning about and taking part in old arts and crafts and local customs and traditions.
Nothing tastes so good as freshly picked fruit.
It’s simply of matter of turning to tradition and customs, local crafts, natural riches, and keeping a creative and open-minded approach to new experiences.
The post WHICH ACTIVITIES SHOULD I ORGANIZE? appeared first on SEE Business travel & meetings magazine.",
